Nalgonda: Authorities in Bhadadri-Kothagudem district on Thursday issued alerts for residents of Julurupad, Chandrugonda, Annapureddipally, Dammanapet, Ashwaraopet and Mulkalapally mandals in view of heavy rains.

People in Cherla were also cautioned as water levels in the Taliperu project continue to rise. The Godavari river at Bhadrachalam recorded a level of 35.8 feet with a discharge of 6,10,932 cusecs, and further increase is expected in the coming hours.

In Nalgonda district, heavy rains submerged stretches of the Bhongir–Nalgonda road at Nagireddypally, disrupting traffic from Thursday morning. A four-kilometre-long jam formed on both sides, forcing authorities to divert vehicles through Nagaram and Choutuppal.

The district administration also declared a holiday for schools in Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhongir due to the inclement weather.
