Hyderabad: In a relief to former BRS MLA Rega Kantha Rao, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday quashed a criminal case registered against him by the Panjagutta police in connection with allegations of sexual assault and criminal intimidation.

Justice B.R. Madhusudhan Rao passed the order on a criminal petition filed by Kantha Rao, former MLA from the Pinapaka Assembly constituency in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

The case was registered against him on July 26, 2026, on a complaint lodged by a woman associated with the media.

According to the complaint, Kantha Rao allegedly subjected the complainant to sexual assault on multiple occasions since 2022 on the promise of providing her employment in a proposed YouTube channel.

It was further alleged that Kantha Rao collected Rs 5 lakh from her on the assurance that the amount would be invested in a real estate venture and would fetch substantial returns.

Denying the allegations in the FIR, Kantha Rao approached the High Court with separate petitions seeking quashing of the FIR and anticipatory bail in the case.

After considering the petition and the material placed before it, the High Court quashed the criminal case against Kantha Rao. Following the order, the anticipatory bail petition was withdrawn.
