HC Directs SEC To Complete The Election Process To Elect Ibrahimpatnam Civic Chief
According to the petitioner, the High Court had granted an interim stay on the election process after a habeas corpus petition was filed alleging that ward councillor Yadagiri had been kidnapped
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the State Election Commission to complete the election process for the chairman and vice-chairman posts of Ibrahimpatnam municipality within four weeks. Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar issued the direction while hearing a writ petition filed by Tekula Sudarshan Reddy, who alleged that the authorities failed to declare the results despite the completion of the process.
According to the petitioner, the High Court had granted an interim stay on the election process after a habeas corpus petition was filed alleging that ward councillor Yadagiri had been kidnapped. However, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that by the time the interim orders reached the authorities, the election process had been completed, though the results were not announced. He also stated that Yadagiri had participated on the voting for the posts.
Counsel for Yadagiri contended that BRS former MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and his son Prashanthakumar Reddy had allegedly taken Yadagiri to Bapatla and kept him under restraint.
Senior counsel G. Vidyasagar Rao submitted that the municipal authorities had written to the state government seeking approval to conduct the election and that the government had accorded the necessary permission.
