Have Security Checks but Open Cantt Roads, Say Residents
Residents urge reopening of key routes in Secunderabad with enhanced security for daily commute relief.
Hyderabad: People who were affected by the closure of some roads passing through the Secunderabad cantonment after the Pahalgam terror attacks urged the authorities to increase security at checkpoints but allow civilians to use the roads.
The roads which are closed are Eagle Chowk, connecting Kowkoor, Rajiv Rahadari, Yapral and Lakdawala, and Ammugadu Road connecting AS Rao Nagar, ECIL, Sainkpuri and Malkajgiri Road. The road closures in the past have cut off residents of the northeastern colonies from the rest of the city.
G.S. Majoj Kumar, a resident of Bolaram, said, “My children study in a school at Defence Colony, and a college in Alwal. As this road is closed, I have to take the longer detour to drop them. I have to make two trips each day. I urge the aurhorities to consider our plight and open the roads.”
He added “These are the cantonment roads, where both the civil and defence personnel stay. They should enhance the security but allow us to use the roads.”
“I travel to Tirumalgherry, Marredpally, Ammuguda, and Sainikpuri. The closure of roads is making our lives difficult. Whenever there is an issue related to national security, these roads are closed,” said Deepesh Suran, pharmacist.
Sapna Jain, a resident of Bolaram, said: “For more than 15 years, we have been living here. My children are studying in fifth and ninth standards at a school in Balamrai, and they are having special classes. The closure of these road is making daily commute a difficult task. We request the authorities to allow at least the students to pass through.”
According to Dheeraj Kumar, a businessman from Alwal, “We are travelling five kms more every day because of the closure of roads.”
