Hyderabad: Former irrigation minister and BRS Assembly deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Thursday condemned Union minister G. Kishan Reddy’s statements in the Rajya Sabha on Telangana formation, and issues surrounding the statehood.

Harish Rao, in a statement, said Kishan Reddy, “who failed to stand firmly with the Telangana movement when it mattered, has once again betrayed Telangana in Parliament through misleading and irresponsible statements. He is distorting history, and insulting the self-respect of Telangana on the floor of Parliament.”

He accused of Kishan Reddy of lying about transfer of seven mandals to Andhra Pradesh as being part of the AP Reorganisation Act. “It was the BJP-led Union government that brought an amendment and issued an ordinance to transfer these mandals to AP. Kishan Reddy cannot escape responsibility for that betrayal,” Harish Rao said.

“Kishan Reddy’s comments expose a larger political conspiracy. He repeated falsehoods being spread by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the Kaleshwaram project, and that this clearly reflects a dark political understanding between Congress and BJP,” Harish Rao said.

Slamming Kishan Reddy for saying if the “money spent on the project came from KCR’s pockets,” Harish Rao said this was an immature and absurd argument. Several leaders and institutions, including senior figures from the Union government, had praised the project.
