HYDERABAD: Former minister T. Harish Rao sharply criticised the state government for failing to use available floodwaters to benefit farmers. He accused the Congress government of trying to project the Kaleshwaram project as a failure by not switching on its irrigation motors, resulting in water flowing into the sea.

Speaking to media persons, Harish Rao said several key reservoirs such as Annapurna, Ranganayakasagar, Mallannasagar, Kondapochammasagar, and Baswapur hold far less water than their capacities because of the government’s decision against switching on the motors.

He urged the government to run seven motors at Ellampalli to supply two TMC ft of water daily to Mid Manair, which could then irrigate lakhs of acres in Yadadri and nearby regions.

If the government does not operate the Kaleshwaram motors, Harish Rao warned the BRS would mobilise thousands of farmers to start the motors.

He also accused Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, of ignoring the crisis. He also sharply criticized Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, for allegedly ignoring the water crisis and allowing Krishna and Godavari waters go unused.

He expressed grave concern over the damage caused to farmers due to empty reservoirs and accused the government of imposing its political vendettas on the agrarian community.

Harish Rao addressed concerns about running motors continuously, citing warnings from BHEL engineers about the harmful effects of frequent motor switching and urging the government to prioritize farmer welfare over politics.
