Harish Rao Accuses Congress Govt of Cutting Farm Power Supply

Hyderabad:Former minister and BRS Assembly deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Friday accused the Congress government of pushing farmers into misery by cutting agriculture power supply to only 12 hours every day.
Speaking to reporters after a sudden inspection at the Solepet power substation in Bommalaramaram mandal of Aler constituency along with former MLA Gongidi Sunitha, Harish Rao said the substation’s logbook only showed 12 hours of power supply to farmers, that too intermittently.
Questioning Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s recent statement that there were no power cuts, Harish Rao asked: “If there are no power cuts, why do the official records at Solepet substation show only 12 hours of agricultural supply?”
The government, he said, was deliberately reducing power generation because supplying free electricity to farmers did not generate revenue.
“Farmers are being forced to protest at substations demanding proper power supply during this crucial transplantation phase for their crops. Making matters worse, as much as 1,870 MW of power generation at Yadadri and Bhadradri thermal plants has been halted due to government negligence,” he said.
Harish Rao said he had visited the constituency to console the family of a deceased BRS party worker, but local women complained that drinking water was being supplied only once every two days. Despite inheriting a fully functional Mission Bhagiratha network built by the previous BRS government, the Congress government failed to maintain the system, he said.
People in Sangareddy, Narayankhed, Andole, Zaheerabad, Kamareddy, Yadadri, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and several other districts were facing severe drinking water shortages, he said.
