Harish Likens Medical College To Cattle Shed
He said the BRS would continue supporting the students' agitation until their grievances were resolved.
Hyderabad:BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Wednesday demanded that the state government shift Maheshwaram Government Medical College to a building with adequate facilities within two months, describing the existing conditions as worse than those in a cattle shed.
Harish Rao, accompanied by former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, visited the protest camp at Mangalpally, where medical students have been agitating for three days over inadequate infrastructure and basic amenities.
He telephoned Rangareddy district collector Narayana Reddy and director of medical education Vani Devi from the protest site and demanded immediate action to address the students' grievances.
The former minister sought a written assurance on relocating the college and demanded immediate provision of drinking water, toilets and transport facilities.
He said students from Telangana and states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Kerala had chosen the college because of its proximity to Hyderabad. Had they known about the conditions, none would have opted for the institution, he claimed.
Questioning the government over the alleged absence of mandatory clearances, Harish Rao said even small private schools were required to obtain fire safety approvals, no-objection certificates and occupancy certificates before opening.
He demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha explain how a government medical college could function under such conditions.
Harish Rao also criticised Revanth Reddy's claims about his performance as Chief Minister, saying it was for students to judge the government's commitment to education.
He said the BRS would continue supporting the students' agitation until their grievances were resolved.
