Harish Demands Pay Hike For ASHAs

HYDERABAD: The BRS demanded that the state government address the concerns of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers and honour its election promises.
Speaking at a protest by ASHA workers at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on Monday, senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao said the workers were not asking for the moon but only for what was promised. He reminded that during the campaign, the Congress had assured a salary hike from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 a month and provision of ESI and PF coverage.
“But once in power, the Congress government neglected its promises. Whenever reminded, they say there is no money. If that is the case, where is the Revanth Reddy government finding funds for contracts worth Rs 10,000 crore by HMDA, Rs 6,000 crore by GHMC, and Rs 10,000 crore by the irrigation department?” he questioned.
Harish Rao warned that the BRS will continue to fight for ASHA workers’ rights. He said the government must fulfil its promise before the local body elections. “Otherwise, Congress will have to pay a heavy price,” he warned.
