Gutha Suspects Conspiracy Behind Regional Water Row
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy urged leaders of Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda to resolve the irrigation water dispute through consultations.
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Wednesday suspected that some forces were trying to create water dispute between the Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts and suggested the elected representatives of both districts to amicably resolve the issue through consultations.
During chit-chat with media in his camp office at Nalgonda, he said there is a need to avoid regional rifts arising in the Telangana state, which was achieved through a prolonged struggle for water, funds, and employment opportunities. It is unfortunate that some leaders were trying to create differences between the districts, which would harm the interests of the state.
Reminding that the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Dindi lift irrigation schemes have been taken up with the aim of making the Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts lush and fertile, he said the purpose of irrigation projects was to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers of both the districts.
He pointed out that the state Cabinet had approved the drawing of 1.5 TMC of water daily from the Edula reservoir to the Palamuru-Rangareddy and 0.5 TMC to the Dindi lift irrigation scheme. Some persons conspired to turn the decision into a controversy and instigate the people of Mahabubnagar. He suspected that there is a conspiracy of some person exerting pressure on Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy by creating water dispute between the two districts.
He opined that everyone had the responsibility of upholding the integrity of Telangana and fostering a spirit of brotherhood among people of its districts.
He underlined the need to ensure a safe drinking water supply and irrigation facility to fluoride-affected districts to save the people from the deadly fluorosis, which would cripple the lives of lakhs of people in Nalgonda
He requested the Chief Minister to take an initiative in finding a permanent solution to this issue by conducting a special meeting with ministers, MLAs, and relevant officials from both districts and coming out with a decision acceptable to all parties.
