Hyderabad: Telangana Gurukul student Islavath Banni has achieved a notable feat by scaling Mount Tarang-2, a 6,027-metre peak in Himachal Pradesh.

Banni, a final-year B.Com student of the Telangana Gurukul Tribal Welfare Residential Degree College (TGTWRDC), Kamareddy, reached the summit on September 22 and returned safely to the college on September 30.

On Saturday, welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar felicitated Banni on his achievement.

The minister encouraged students to pursue excellence not only in academics but also in sports, adventure activities and other fields.

“True sporting spirit lies in moving forward in the face of adversity without giving up.

Students should draw inspiration from Banni and come forward to excel in sports and adventure activities,” he said.

The minister said the government and Gurukul institutions would extend the necessary encouragement and opportunities to identify and nurture the latent talents of tribal students.

TGTWREIS secretary K. Seethalakshmi said his participation in the first Indian team to scale Mount Tarang-2 was a matter of pride for the Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society.
