WARANGAL: Internal rifts within the Warangal Congress surfaced once again during the Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary celebrations held in Warangal on Wednesday. A clash broke out between the followers of minister Konda Surekha and other senior party leaders, including district president Errabelli Swarna, MLA K.R. Nagaraju, and MLC Baswaraju Saraiah.

The dispute began when Swarna, Nagaraju, and Saraiah paid tributes to the statue of Rajiv Gandhi just five minutes before minister Surekha arrived. As soon as her supporters reached the venue, they began chanting “Jai Konda,” creating a tense atmosphere. While MLC Saraiah and Nagaraju were speaking to the media, Surekha arrived, ignored the other leaders, and paid her tributes separately. This led to the leaders conducting their celebrations separately.
Later, Konda Surekha criticised the other leaders, stating that they had paid their tributes before the minister’s arrival. She remarked, “I will leave it to their wisdom whether it was right or not.”
It is worth noting that several MLAs from Warangal district had earlier lodged a formal complaint with the party’s disciplinary committee against minister Konda Surekha and her husband, Konda Muralidhar, over their actions and remarks. The issue was discussed in a recent disciplinary committee meeting.
Following this, committee chairman Mallu Ravi announced that the party high command would send a four-member team to Warangal to address the issue and work toward a resolution. However, the leadership has yet to finalise the names of the members who will be part of this mediation effort.
