Greater Warangal Residents Flag Pipeline Leakages To Check Summer Water Scarcity
Residents have urged the authorities to proactively identify leakages across the tri-cities and take up their repairs immediately.
Warangal: Even as Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) officials claim to be taking advanced measures to prevent drinking water scarcity in view of the El Niño effect, leakages from pipelines across the city are wasting enormous amounts of water.
The wastage of water is clearly a contradiction of officials' appeals to citizens to conserve water, as they themselves are wasting precious water by not attending to the leaking pipes.
The difference between the officials’ words and deeds stands exposed as they have failed in repairing a major pipeline supplying water from Pothana Nagar towards 12 Morees.
Drinking water has been flowing on the road continuously for hours.
Residents of the area say despite their calls, officials concerned failed to respond or initiate repairs quickly.
Pipeline leakages are common in several parts of the city.
Repeated complaints to the authorities hardly elicit a response.
This year, people are particularly concerned about the drinking water supply next summer, as storage in reservoirs that supply water to Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet is inadequate.
Given the circumstances, residents say authorities should ensure that no water is wasted.
Residents have urged the authorities to proactively identify leakages across the tri-cities and take up their repairs immediately.
They have demanded that GVMC put in place an effective mechanism to ensure prompt action on public complaints.
