Hyderabad: Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao on Wednesday conducted a high-level field inspection of several heritage landmarks, including Qutb Shahi Tombs, Katora House, and the Khazana Building Museum.

Accompanied by Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, the Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing conservation works and underscored the government's resolve to elevate Telangana’s heritage onto the global tourism map.

During his visit to the Interpretation Centre at the Qutb Shahi Tombs, Krishna Rao took stock of the legal hurdles involving cases pending before the Waqf Tribunal. He instructed officials to bypass the specific areas currently under the Tribunal's jurisdiction and immediately resume all other pending projects within a week.

The Minister emphasized that administrative delays should not hinder the preservation of these vital historical structures. A major highlight of the visit was the review of the proposed 1.3-kilometre ropeway project designed to connect the Qutb Shahi Tombs with the Golconda Fort.

Officials briefed the Minister that the project is currently in the clearance stage. Krishna Rao directed them to finalize the Detailed Project Report (DPR) as soon as the requisite permissions from various departments are obtained.

Later, at Katora House, the Minister expressed his vision to transform the precinct into a prominent tourist attraction. He directed the Tourism Department to coordinate with the Department of Archaeology, GHMC, HMDA, and the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSDA) to draft a comprehensive DPR.

He also issued stern instructions to GHMC officials to immediately clear waste and debris from the Katora House surroundings to restore its sanctity. The Minister also proposed the construction of a shopping complex, modeled after the historic Laad Bazaar, on vacant land near the Golconda Fort bus stop.

He advised officials to submit these proposals to the National Monuments Authority (NMA) for necessary clearances. At the Khazana Building Museum, Krishna Rao highlighted the immense historical value of the artifacts on display and stressed the need to make the museum more accessible to the public.

He directed the Archaeology, TGSTDC, and QQSDA officials to organize a handloom and Khadi showcase at the venue to promote local craftsmanship. Furthermore, he ordered the removal of encroachments behind the museum within a week, seeking the cooperation of the Police department for the task.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Krishna Rao stated that Telangana is home to magnificent heritage sites and scenic landscapes. He noted that the administration is prioritizing the development of world-class infrastructure to attract both domestic and international tourists, ensuring that the State’s rich legacy is showcased to the world.
