Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore to Osmania University for undertaking development works. He also released the proposed master plan for the university and launched a QR Code student feedback.

Laying out an education-focused agenda before a gathering of more than 9,000 people at the Arts College, Revanth Reddy said, “To come to Osmania University, you do not need courage. You need affection.”

Recalling the role the campus played in the freedom struggle and the early phases of the Telangana movement, he spoke about the university’s influence on Telangana’s political history and its illustrious alumni such as P.V. Narasimha Rao, S. Jaipal Reddy and George Reddy.

Speaking about equality and opportunity, the Chief Minister said, “Our students did not ask for property or land. They asked for freedom, fairness and opportunity.”

Pointing to examples from China, Japan and Germany, the Chief Minister told students that English is only a tool of medium, and “not knowledge.” “I may not speak English well, but I understand the minds of poor people,” he said, adding that learning often comes from understanding everyday life rather than formal structures.

He said the Telangana Rising plan aims to create pathways for 12 lakh jobs and stressed the need for quality education and strong skills training. On recruitment, he said committees have been formed for teaching and non-teaching appointments and that selections should prioritise people committed to student welfare.

Accepting the government order, vice-chancellor Kumar Molugaram said the sanction of funds fulfilled an assurance made by the Chief Minister to Osmania University on August 25.

He said the funds would support academic, residential and infrastructure upgrades and will lead to a noted improvement in the university’s national and international ranking. He added that the letter ‘T’ in Telangana represents trust and education, referring to commitments announced during the Telangana Rising 2047 summit.

Arts College principal C. Kaseem said the visit placed renewed attention on long-standing development needs and described education as central to addressing several gaps in the state.

According to a detailed blueprint for the campus, new buildings will come up for academic and research blocks, boys’ and girls’ hostels, an integrated library, a multi-purpose sports centre, a biodiversity park, a convention venue, a health centre and upgraded internal roads with cycle tracks and pedestrian paths.

Meanwhile, the Osmania University Alumni Association of North America contributed Rs 45 lakh for development activities. Chowdhury Yalamanchili of the Aarella Communities in Houston, Texas, donated the full amount required to digitise the auditorium in the University College of Engineering.

Senior Prof. K. Stevenson, retired from the department of journalism, handed over the cheque on behalf of Harinath Medi, the global alumni president, who was indisposed. Alumni representatives said they are profiling notable graduates, expanding their network and have launched a dedicated registration portal.

A brief protest took place at the campus entrance during the Chief Minister’s arrival over pending job notifications, the police controlled the situation.
