Since the festival of Deepavali falls on a Sunday, on November 8, the State government has declared the Monday following it, November 9, as a holiday.
An official press release said on Wednesday that the extra holiday for Deepavali was aimed at providing people, particularly students and their parents, some breathing time to return to their workplaces from the native places that they would visit to celebrate the festival.
So, government offices, public sector organisations, schools and colleges would be closed on November 9, a government notification said.
