Adilabad: The huge deficit in the cumulative rainfall in the Adilabad region has been made up with the heavy rain in the last week of June, and revived farmers’ hopes on Kharif.

The Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal and Adilabad districts were facing deficit rainfall, while the Mancherial district faced a larger deficit rainfall till June 19.

Adilabad is still facing a deficit with a deviation of 23 per cent in the actual rainfall against the normal rainfall, while Nirmal and Asifabad districts got into the ‘normal rainfall’ category. Mancherial, which faced a large deficit of rainfall, has also been brought to the normal rainfall category.

As per the cumulative rainfall by July 1, Nirmal district has received 170. 2mm actually rainfall against the normal 178.2mm, and the deficit is only a 4 per cent deviation. The Komaram Bheem Asifabad district has received 169.2mm actual rainfall against 195.5mm of normal rainfall, with only a 13 per cent deviation.

Meanwhile, Adilabad received 166.0mm actual rainfall against the 216.7mm normal rainfall with a 23 per cent deviation. Adilabad district was still facing a deficit of rainfall with the deviation of 23 per cent.

Mancherial received 140.3mm of rainfall against 168.0 m of normal rainfall with a 16 per cent deviation. Mancherial district faced a large deficit of rainfall till June 19, but it was covered with the heavy spell of rains in the last week of June, officials said.

The heavy spells in the last week of June revived the hopes of the farmers. They are sowing seeds of cotton, redgram and soya for the first time, and some of them are re-sowing these due to a lack of germination of seeds sown in the early sowing season.

Farmer Rajeshwar of Tantoli in Adilabad rural mandal said farmers had lost hope on the Kharif season with scanty rainfall till the third week of June, but the situation has changed with a heavy spell of rains in the last week of June.

He said farmers are now busy sowing seeds in their agricultural fields and opeful of the germination of seeds with sufficient moisture in the soil.
