Hyderabad: Justice P.C. Ghose, heading the judicial commission of inquiry into the Kaleshwaram barrages, is expected to submit his report to the Telangana government in the last week of this month. The term of the commission is scheduled to come to a close on July 31.
During the year-long inquiry, the commission interviewed, questioned, and sought depositions from 115 witnesses, including former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the last witness to face Justice Ghose, and former ministers T. Harish Rao and Etala Rajendar. Also questioned were irrigation department engineers, senior officials from the finance and irrigation departments, as well as representatives of the companies Navayuga, Afcons, and L&T that built the Sundilla, Annaram, and Medigadda barrages, respectively.
It is learnt that the commission is finishing up the final document collection from the government and is also expected to receive an explanation from the former engineer-in-chief (general) G Anil Kumar over the issue of grouting of the gaps and voids under the three barrages. Sources said the commission was at an advanced stage in finalising its report and Justice Ghose, who is in Hyderabad, is expected to return to Kolkata after a couple of days, where he will work on the report and return towards the end of the month to submit it to the government.
