GHMC Workers Shine in New Delhi
Frontline workers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation participated in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi
Hyderabad: Sanitation supervisor K. Sudarshan and sanitary field assistant (SFA) U. Urmila, both frontline workers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), participated in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
K. Ilambarithi, secretary of metropolitan area and urban development (HMDA limits), and GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan accompanied them. In a symbolic gesture that drew attention at the national stage, Sudarshan and Urmila wore their GHMC aprons—the same attire used during sanitation duties—while sharing the dais with Union minister for housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. Most other dignitaries were dressed in formal suits.
The presence of ground-level sanitation staff in their work uniforms at such a prestigious event highlighted the government's recognition of the contributions made by frontline workers in maintaining urban cleanliness. In the GHMC structure, the SFA oversees the team of sweepers in a designated area and reports directly to the sanitation supervisor.
