GHMC Tightens Disease Surveillance In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has outlined measures to strengthen disease surveillance and outbreak preparedness following a review meeting by its additional commissioner (health).

The Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) convened a coordination meeting at the GHMC head office with district medical and health officers, district surveillance officers, district epidemiologists, clinical establishment authorities, assistant medical officers of health and public health officials from Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts.

Officials decided to strengthen reporting of notifiable diseases by private hospitals and healthcare institutions in accordance with the Clinical Establishments Act and Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) guidelines. Laboratories using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) will be encouraged to introduce automatic alerts for 50 notifiable diseases under IHIP to ensure timely reporting and early detection of outbreaks.

The GHMC reiterated its commitment to a “One Health” approach involving coordination among government departments, healthcare institutions, laboratories and public health experts.

The measures are aimed at improving early detection of disease outbreaks, enhancing public health preparedness and ensuring quicker response to emerging health threats across the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region.
