GHMC Targets 300 Wards in Sanitation Blitz
The sanitation drive will run for over a month, from Monday to January 31 next, with cleaning beginning at 6.30 am daily: Reports
HYDERABAD: Sanitation issues will be the focus when the extended GHMC becomes fully operational from Monday. The corporation said it would launch a drive to clean up all its 300 wards
As part of an administrative rejig, 60 deputy executive engineers have been transferred and posted to the solid waste management (SWM) wing. “The transfers have been effected on administrative grounds to strengthen waste management operations,” said a GHMC official.
The sanitation drive will run for over a month, from Monday to January 31 next, with cleaning beginning at 6.30 am daily. On Monday, the sanitation activity will focus on foot overbridges (FoBs) and on Tuesday, flyovers. This will be followed by roadsides, central medians, and kerbs on Wednesday.
Other activities include cleaning lakes and nalas, removing construction and demolition waste, and eliminating garbage vulnerable points (GVPs). Programmes to sensitise schoolchildren on segregation of dry and wet waste have also been planned.
GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed officials to identify ward-wise legacy waste points — dumped waste lying for long periods along nalas, lakes, footpaths, parks, and roadsides — along with GPS coordinates. Internal planning and route maps for vehicles will then be prepared to lift the legacy waste.
