Hyderabad: With the state government increasing the number of wards in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) from 150 to 300 wards, reception centres seeking suggestions and objections were set up at its circle head office circle, zonal offices and head office on Wednesday.

Objections and suggestions from people and political party representatives will be taken up at these places for seven days.

The wards have been doubled after 27 urban local bodies (ULBs) were merged with the erstwhile GHMC, increasing the corporation’s jurisdiction from 650 sq. km to 2,000 sq. km.

With the preliminary draft notification for delimitation of wards already being published, a major enquiry from people and political party representatives is about the boundaries of wards. Presently, ward maps are not being provided at these centres. “After a week, valid objections and suggestions will be incorporated and necessary changes will be made,” said a GHMC official.
