Hyderabad: The GHMC has renamed over 30 wards and changed boundaries in its final delimitation report submitted to the state government on Monday. This follows the merger of 27 surrounding urban local bodies, increasing the number of GHMC wards from 150 to 300 and expanding its footprint from 650 sq. km to 2,000 sq. km.

The GHMC had earlier issued a preliminary notification seeking objections and suggestions to the delimitation proposals. After securing government approval, the GHMC will release the final report.

"We received 5,940 objections and suggestions from people and political parties. Taking into consideration the views expressed by MLAs, MLCs and corporators during the recent GHMC special council meeting, the scrutiny was completed," said a GHMC official.

He said that suggestions and objections that were found to be valid with regard to renaming of wards based on the prominence, historical significance, and change in ward boundaries were taken into consideration.
