GHMC Removes 52 Abandoned Vehicles in Clean-Up Drive

3,945 tonnes of waste cleared; special drive to continue till Jan 31

Hyderabad: As part of its ongoing special sanitation drive, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has removed 52 abandoned vehicles occupying roadsides and footpaths across 300 locations, aimed at enhancing cleanliness, public safety, and traffic mobility.

The corporation said it has also transported 3,945 metric tonnes of waste to dumping sites, including 2,910 metric tonnes of solid waste and 1,035 metric tonnes of construction and demolition debris. The drive will continue until January 31.

GHMC urged citizens to report abandoned vehicles and similar cases with exact location details to its helpline (040-2111 1111).

In addition, GHMC announced a mega electronic waste collection drive on January 12 and 13 under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Conducted in coordination with HiMSW Limited, the initiative will focus on collecting discarded electronic items such as household appliances, IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, batteries, UPS systems, and accessories. The collected e-waste will be transported by designated vehicles to the processing facility at Dundigal.

On Friday, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan, along with additional commissioner Raghu Prasad, inspected the sanitation drive at the New Lake area in Filmnagar.

Officials said that over the past 11 days, special sanitation operations were carried out at 2,526 locations, including foot overbridges, flyovers, garbage-vulnerable points, and parks.
