GHMC Incorporates Technology to Clear Storm Sewers
Cameras and jetting machines to detect and remove blockages to prevent waterlogging
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is incorporating technology to clear stormwater drains, anticipating more rain. A machine equipped with a camera will be sent into the storm sewers, and the GHMC will take steps to clear the bottlenecks.
An agency will be shortlisted on a tender basis to detect bottlenecks using robotic technology fitted with cameras to detect waterlogging points. The silt has to be removed using a jetting and suction mechanism,” said a GHMC official.
The rainwater initially exits the roads through manholes or water exits on either side of the roads, then it sweeps into the stormwater drains and finally drains into the Musi. Though GHMC officials blame the citizens for dumping waste into nalas, leading to waterlogging, the lack of a concrete mechanism by the corporation to dispose of the waste is also adding up to the problem.
A resident from a slum area in Zaheeranagar, Banjara Hills complained that the Swachh Auto Tipper (SAT) does not come to their place to pick up garbage.
Recently, mattresses and broken pieces of furniture were removed while officials were taking up work to bring back normalcy after rains.
