GHMC Hosts Food Safety Sessions

A total of 180 street food vendors participated in the training programme, including 80 on Tuesday and 100 on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: The Food Safety Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted a FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) training programme for street food vendors operating within GHMC limits on Tuesday and Wednesday, in pursuance of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The objective of the initiative was to create an improved environment of self-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act and to bring about behavioural change by inculcating a culture of food safety among street food vendors.

A total of 180 street food vendors participated in the training programme, including 80 on Tuesday and 100 on Wednesday. The participants were educated on food safety and hygiene practices and successfully completed the Food Safety Supervisor course. Each participant was awarded a certificate valid for a period of two years.

Additionally, hygiene kits were also distributed to all the vendors, which included head nets, gloves, aprons and three different types of cloths for cleaning premises and personal use.

The programme has been extended till Thursday, with the aim of training approximately 300 street food vendors on food safety and hygiene practices within GHMC limits.

The programme was organised with the support of the Urban Community Development (UCD) wing of GHMC, Nestle India and the National Association of Street Vendors of India.
