Congress, BRS spar over ration cards
Tensions flared between Congress and BRS leaders during a ration card distribution event in Jubilee Hills on Friday, as minister Ponnam Prabhakar and BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan engaged in a heated exchange over the BRS government's track record.
During the distribution programme, MLC Dasoju Sravan refuted claims that the previous BRS government did not give a single new ration card to applicants, and a verbal argument ensued. MLA Danam Nagender, along with other leaders from both parties, had heated altercations on stage before the issue was diffused.
Speaking to reporters, minister Prabhakar said, “In the last ten years, families couldn’t get new ration cards even if there was a marriage or a birth. But our government is giving new ration cards to all eligible families.”
“In Hyderabad’s 15 constituencies alone, we handed over 55,000 ration cards whose verification is complete and another 1,00,000 application verifications are being processed. The BRS government gave 6,00,000 ration cards, but cancelled more than 5,50,000 ration cards”, he added.
