GHMC Clarifies Role of BLOs in SIR
When the staff felt underqualified for the job, some of them also made requests to relieve them of the duties, which was obliged by the corporation. Still some requests remain pending with the higher ups.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) clarified that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed in 15 Assembly constituencies of Hyderabad district adhered to the strict guidelines and directions issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Following the report “SIR: BLOs’ competence under scanner” published in Deccan Chronicle on June 8, the GHMC held that the appointments were from the list of categories from government and semi-government employees. They include teachers, anganwadi workers, patwari/amin/lekhpal, panchayat secretary, village level workers, electricity bill readers, postman, auxiliary nurses & midwives, health workers, midday meal workers, contract teachers, corporation tax collectors and clerical staff in urban area.
However DC stands by the report as there were specific instances, where individuals with low levels of education, other than the categories listed by GHMC were found engaged as BLOs. When the staff felt underqualified for the job, some of them also made requests to relieve them of the duties, which was obliged by the corporation. Still some requests remain pending with the higher ups.
