GHMC Amendments To Be Discussed In Coming Days

HYDERABAD: The Winter Session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly will be held till January 7, after it reconvenes on January 2 following the New Year break, it was decided at the business advisory council meeting on Monday.
The meeting, chaired by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao, and CPI member K. Sambasiva Rao.
There is also a prospect of the BAC meeting on January 4 to take stock of the progress of the session and take a call on the duration and further agenda.
Both the BRS and the BJP placed before the BAC a list of subjects they wanted the Assembly to take up for discussions.
Among the subjects that will come up are introduction of Bills to replace ordinances issued by the government on including the GHMC (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, the Telangana Municipalities (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 and the GHMC (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
Speaking with reporters after the BAC meeting, Harish Rao said the BRS had insisted that the session be held for at least 15 working days. The Speaker responded that another BAC meeting will be held again when a decision can be taken on this.
Harish Rao also said that the BRS said it should also be given an opportunity to make a presentation on irrigation issues if the government does so.
He recalled that Deputy CM Bhatti had once led a Congress walk out of the House saying the party was not allowed to make a presentation, and said that he had asked the Speaker if the BRS too should do the same if denied an opportunity.
“The BRS submitted a list of 15 key subjects for discussion and have been assured of an opportunity to raise them,” Harish Rao said.

The BJP list also covers urea shortages, farmer suicides, crop loan waivers, Rythu Bharosa, Atmiya Bharosa for farm labourers, crop insurance.
Speaking elsewhere, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao wanted a 30-day sitting of the Assembly to discuss threadbare, the problems that people faced.
