Ganesh Idol Immersions Intensify Across Hyd

HYDERABAD: Ganesh idol immersions are picking up pace across Hyderabad and surrounding areas, with thousands of idols already immersed in lakes, ponds and designated water bodies as the city gears up for the main immersion procession on September 25. Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Hyderabad police Commissionerate have reported steady immersion activity over the past week, with more idols expected to arrive at immersion points in the coming days.
At Tank Bund, immersion activity continued on Sunday despite boards displayed along the stretch stating that idol immersions are not allowed. A total of 17 heavy cranes were deployed at the site, including 10 on the NTR Marg side and seven along the People’s Plaza stretch. Traffic police regulated the movement of trucks and other vehicles carrying idols and guided them towards immersion points.
Four excavators were also deployed to clear the idols immersed in the water body. A police officer stationed at the site said personnel were closely monitoring vehicle movement and regulating traffic to prevent congestion. Another officer at the control centre set up at Tank Bund said the situation was being monitored continuously, with personnel coordinating with field teams to regulate traffic and crowd movement. The control centre was also tracking developments at immersion points and responding to traffic or crowd‑related issues.
Across the city, GHMC, MMC and CMC, along with the police, have identified several alternative immersion locations, including lakes and baby ponds, to ease pressure on major water bodies and prevent overcrowding.
Localities such as Kukatpally, Moosapet, Old Bowenpally, Balanagar and Alwal have witnessed community and household idols being immersed through the week, with local police coordinating vehicle parking, traffic diversions and safety arrangements at the respective sites.
Security has been stepped up ahead of the main procession. Additional police personnel, traffic wardens, CCTV cameras, drones, and bomb and dog squads are being deployed at key immersion points. Control rooms have been set up in several zones to coordinate arrangements and address grievances.
Traffic restrictions are already in force around sensitive stretches, with diversions expected to intensify closer to September 25, when the principal Balapur–Hussain Sagar procession is scheduled to pass through Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Charminar and M.J. Market before reaching Tank Bund and Hussain Sagar.
Police have urged devotees to follow traffic advisories and use designated routes and parking areas to avoid congestion. Authorities expect immersion activity to increase sharply over the coming days as more community processions and household idols reach designated immersion points, with the largest idols expected on the main immersion day.
