Freak Gale Uproots Hundreds of Trees in Mangapet Forest
Scene reminiscent of Medaram windstorm; police clear fallen trees from road
Mulugu:Sudden gales wreaked havoc in Mangapet mandal of Mulugu district on Tuesday evening, uprooting hundreds of trees in the forest area and disrupting traffic along a key interior road.
The severe winds struck the forest stretch between Sandroni Vagu and Shantinagar on the Mangapet-Komatipalli road, bringing down several large trees across the roadway and inside the adjoining forest. The fallen trees temporarily blocked vehicular movement, prompting immediate action from police and local authorities.
Residents described the devastation as being similar to the massive windstorm that hit the Medaram forest region in Tadvai mandal on August 31, 2024, when hundreds of trees had been uprooted. Locals have described Tuesday’s developments as one of the worst incidents in recent years.
Following information, Mangapet police rushed to the spot, removed the uprooted trees from the road, and restored traffic. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.
Officials are assessing the extent of damage caused to the forest and road infrastructure. The incident comes amid intermittent rains and unstable weather conditions prevailing across parts of Mulugu district.
