Four New Police Stations Planned in Each Hyderabad Commissionerate
Jurisdictions to be redrawn as police units adapt to rapid urban expansion and Future City
Hyderabad: The state police will add four stations each in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City commissionerates to meet the demands of rapid expansion and jurisdictional changes. Officials said the move aims to strengthen citizen security and crime control.
The restructuring follows the creation of the Future City commissionerate, which altered zones and boundaries, leading to jurisdictional overlaps. Traffic divisions will also be realigned in line with law and order changes.
The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by DGP C.V. Anand with commissioners of all four units. A senior officer said boundaries will be redrawn division‑wise and zone‑wise, based on crime rates and population. Orders from the state government are expected soon, as the final survey has been completed.
The high‑level meeting examined jurisdictional boundaries in relation to municipalities, revenue divisions and courts. In June 2023, the government set up new stations, bringing the total to 146 across three commissionerates. In December 2024, the capital’s commissionerates were reorganised, creating Future City.
Some zones currently have more than 10 stations, while others have only six. Malkajgiri zone, with 15 stations, covers a vast area stretching from Secunderabad Market to Keesara, Jawaharnagar and Shamirpet. Officials said long distances hamper patrolling and security during major events, particularly in VIP zones.
Uppal and LB Nagar zones each have seven stations, while Serilingampally in Cyberabad and Maheshwaram in Future City are considered massive areas with dense populations. The meeting also addressed confusion over names and jurisdictions, noting that Shamshabad zone has been merged with Hyderabad commissionerate, while Shamshabad Rural falls under Future City.
New suburban stations will be set up at Moinabad and Aziznagar. A separate division centred on Moinabad is planned, with Narsingi station likely to be split or renamed Kokapet. Kondapur station will be formed in the IT corridor or Financial District. Meerpet will be divided to create Badangpet station. Boduppal may be renamed, and a separate Moulali station is proposed.
