Hyderabad: The state government on Monday reorganised the police commissionerates in the city to four, creating the Future City commissionerate, redrawing the borders of Rachakonda to create the Malkajgiri commissionerate.

While Cyberabad remained confined to the IT zone and its neighbouring areas, the Hyderabad commissionerate got bigger in size, extending its jurisdiction to the Shamshabad airport and the High Court complex coming up at Budvel.

G. Sudheer Babu will be the Future City police commissioner, and Avinash Mohanthy will head the Malkajgiri commissionerate, according to orders issued late on Monday night.

Dr M. Ramesh, inspector-general of police, provisioning and logistics, was posted as the Cyberabad commissioner. Akshansh Yadav will head the Yadadri Bhongir district, which was hived off Rachakonda, as superintendent of police.

The rapidly developing IT areas of Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, and Raidurg, along with industrial areas like Patancheru, Genome Valley, RC Puram, and Ameenpur, will fall under the Cyberabad commissionerate.

The Rachakonda commissionerate, reorganised and renamed after Malkajgiri, will include Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur, and Kompally. Bhongir, which was previously under Rachakonda, has been made a separate police unit.

The new Future City commissionerate will cover the upcoming Bharat Future City, Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, Ibrahimpatnam, and other areas.

The government said the exercise was part of providing better services to the public, maintaining law and order, and controlling crime.

The orders creating the new commissionerates and posting new police chiefs followed a decision to structure policing in Hyderabad following the creation of the Bharat Future City and widening the GHMC limits till the Outer Ring Road.

A statement said the police reorganisation followed the creation of the 2,000-sq km 300-ward GHMC, with 12 zones and 60 circles, and the upcoming Future City.
