Nalgonda: BRS MLA and former minister Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy on Tuesday urged the Congress government to fulfil its election promises, particularly its assurance to provide one tola of gold to beneficiaries of the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes.

Speaking after distributing Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) in Suryapet, Jagadish Reddy said governments have a responsibility to honour their pre-poll commitments.

He alleged that the Congress had promised to provide one tola of gold to each beneficiary of Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak in addition to the existing financial assistance of Rs 1,00,116 introduced by the previous BRS government, but had failed to implement the assurance after coming to power.

The BRS leader also called upon the government to implement its other election promises, including Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women, free scooters, enhancement of Aasara pensions to Rs 4,000 and unemployment assistance for jobless youth.

He alleged that political parties that failed to fulfil their election promises would ultimately be held accountable by the electorate.

Jagadish Reddy distributed cheques worth Rs 1.5 crore to 150 beneficiaries of the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes from Athmakur (S), Chivemla, Penpahad and Suryapet Urban mandals in the Suryapet Assembly constituency.

District collector Tejas Nandanlal and Suryapet municipal chairperson Morishetti Nivedita attended the programme.
