Hyderabad: Food safety and enforcement officials conducted inspections at several hotels along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway between Koyyalagudem and Kodad from 11 am on Tuesday, uncovering multiple hygiene and food safety violations.
The inspections, carried out by the Telangana Safe Food Wing and Enforcement officials, revealed cockroaches and rats in storage areas, food being prepared in unhygienic kitchens, and insect-infested pulses and other raw ingredients used for cooking.
Officials also found that meat and dairy products were not stored under proper conditions or at the required temperatures. Some hotels were found storing food prepared the previous day, while one or more establishments were operating with expired FSSAI licences.
Based on the violations detected, officials are taking action, including closing some hotels, issuing show-cause notices to others, and serving improvement notices to establishments that need to rectify the deficiencies. The authorities said a detailed press note would be issued after the inspections at all the identified establishments are completed.
