Food Safety Crackdown: BigBasket Warehouse Licence Suspended and Hotel Dwarka Faces Legal Action in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:The commissioner of food safety's team suspended the licence of the Kondapur warehouse of the delivery chain BigBasket after finding several discrepancies in its maintenance. Officials found expired chicken masala packets, packaged chicken sausages, pizza cheese and packaged paneer in the warehouse. They also found expired ice creams and almond fudge bundles stored in the warehouse.

In a statement, the commissioner said officials noticed edible oil was leaking over other food articles. They found ten milk bottles, five thickshake bottles and 50 soft drink Sting tin cans not stored as per the conditions prescribed by the manufacturer. They also found several edible and non-edible products stored together. Officials issued a notice to the warehouse managers and the licence for the warehouse has been suspended.

In another incident, a case was registered with the Khairatabad police against Dwarka Hotel in Lakdikapul for serving a woman with spoiled sweets which led to her suffering from diarrhoea.
The victim had ordered a veg biryani, a full meal, carrot halwa and moong dal halwa from Dwarka Hotel and observed that the sambar was spoiled and was giving a bad odour. They complained to the manager, who didn’t respond, upon which the woman took both the halwa packages and went home.
At home, the victim took a bite of the carrot halwa found that it was rotten. She filed a complaint with the police, who filed a case against the hotel under IPC Sections 273 and 337 for sale of food or drink that is noxious or unfit for consumption and causing hurt by an act that endangers the life or personal safety.
