Hyderabad: Officials from the transport department have once again urged commuters and motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, to protect their own lives and that of others on the road. Authorities also warned that driving under the influence of alcohol is a major cause of fatal accidents and will invite strict action. “Using mobile phones while driving distracts drivers and increases the risk of accidents,” G. Ravinder, motor vehicles inspector, said.

Drivers were told to focus fully on the road, follow speed-limits, stop at traffic signals and respect pedestrian crossing the road to ensure both riders and passengers are safe on the streets. “Thousands of people are losing their lives due to road accidents caused by violation of traffic rules, and four times as many people are getting injured. Many of these deaths are preventable if people act responsibly,” Ravinder said.
