Flood Situation Worsens in Nirmal; Rescue Ops Underway

Nirmal Police Launch Rescue Operations as Heavy Rains Flood Low-Lying Areas

Adilabad: The flood situation in Nirmal district remains grim after heavy rains since Wednesday evening, with several low-lying areas of Nirmal town submerged. Streams and rivulets are overflowing, and irrigation projects have received heavy inflows, prompting officials to stay on high alert.

Colonies including Sofinagar, Shiajichowk, Old Bus Stand, and Natarajngar were inundated, while Bangalpet, Ramraobhag, and Naiduwada—close to local tanks—face imminent flood threats. District in-charge Minister Jupalli Krishnarao has reviewed the situation and relief measures with local officials.

Authorities have declared holidays for schools and Anganwadi centres in Nirmal and Adilabad districts. Police rescued two of three cattle grazers stranded in floodwaters at Munipelli village in Laxmanchanda mandal, while efforts are underway to save the third. SP Janaki Sharmila appealed to residents to remain indoors unless in emergencies.

Floodwaters also stagnated in Shantinagar, Boyawada, and Mancherial Chowrasta, forcing evacuations to rehabilitation centres. A family of five trapped in backwaters at Madhapur village in Soan mandal was safely rescued.

Meanwhile, irrigation officials lifted four gates of Kadam project and two gates of Swarna project to release excess floodwaters downstream. Collector Abhilasha Abhinav and SP Janaki Sharmila are personally monitoring the situation.

Traffic Diversion on NH-44 as Floodwater Inundates Highway in Nirmal

The traffic on National Highway No. 44 has been affected due to heavy and floodwater coming onto the highway at various places following the heavy rains since Wednesday evening. The Nirmal police issued traffic alerts for the commuters going towards Hyderabad via Kamareddy.

The Nirmal SP Janaki Sharmila asked the commuters to take the left diversion from Kondapur bridge in Nirmal town and proceed towards Hyderabad via Mamada, Khanapur, Metpalli, Jagtial and Karimnagar.
