Five Drug Consumers, Including Four DJs, Detained in New Year Raids Across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a major overnight crackdown to ensure drug-free New Year celebrations, the EAGLE Force (Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau), in coordination with the Prohibition and Excise department and local police, conducted extensive raids on pubs and resorts across the Tri-Commissionerates until the early hours of Thursday.
During the operation, five drug consumers — including four disc jockeys (DJs) — tested positive in on-spot narcotics screening and were detained by the authorities.
To ensure a “drug-free” start to 2026, 15 teams of the EAGLE Force and eight teams from the Excise department carried out surprise inspections that continued till dawn, said Sandeep Shandilya, Director of the TG-EAGLE Force.
He said advanced technology was deployed for on-the-spot detection of narcotics. “We subjected 51 suspects to drug screening using Abbott urine testing kits, German-made Dräger saliva kits, and Sotoxa saliva kits. Of them, four DJs tested positive for prohibited substances,” Shandilya said.
Simultaneously, enforcement teams conducted vehicle checks at key junctions across the city, screening 38 individuals. One commuter tested positive for drug consumption during these checks.
Ahead of the celebrations, the EAGLE Force had issued a stern advisory warning party-goers against falling into drug culture under the guise of music events or momentary thrills.
Further, the agency served undertakings and detailed guidelines to over 500 establishments, including pubs, resorts, event organisers and DJs, cautioning them of stringent action if drug supply or consumption was allowed on their premises during New Year festivities, according to a press release issued by the TG-EAGLE Force Director.
