Field Survey for Vikarabad-Krishna Railway Line Covering 130 km Completed: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Hyderabad: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said Vikarabad and Krishna were already connected through existing railway network via Wadi Junction. However, to provide direct connectivity survey of Vikarabad-Krishna covering 130 km, a new line has been sanctioned for preparation of DPR. The field survey has been completed.
He said this while replying to a question raised by Congress MP M Anil Kumar Yadav in Rajya Sabha on Friday whether a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new railway line connecting Vikarabad and Krishna has been prepared by Railways.
After preparation of DPR, sanctioning of project requires consultation with various stake-holders including the State governments and necessary approvals viz. appraisal of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance etc. As sanctioning of projects is a continuous and dynamic process, exact timelines cannot be fixed, the t Union Minister said.
Sanction of any railway project depends upon many parameters and factors which include anticipated traffic projections and remunerativeness of the proposed route, first and last mile connectivity provided by the project, connection of missing links and providing additional route and augmentation of congested/saturated lines.
It also includes demands raised by State governments, Central Ministries and public representatives, railway’s own operational requirements, Socio-economic considerations and overall availability of funds.
As on April 1, 2025, 20 projects including half a dozen new Lines and 14 doubling works covering a total length of 2,165 Km, costing Rs.35,045 crore falling fully and partly in Telangana have been sanctioned. Out of which, 547 km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of Rs.11,549 crore has been incurred upto March, 2025.
Referring to budget allocations for Telangana, the Minister further stated that budget allocation in the recent years has increased significantly. Budget allocation for infrastructure projects and safety works, falling fully and partly in Telangana was Rs.886 crore per year including Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2014.
However, the budget outlay for 2025 to 2026 was Rs.5,337 crore, which is more than six times in the State. The commissioning and laying of new track falling fully or partly in Telangana during 2009-14 was 87 Km (Andhra Pradesh including Telangana) with 17.4 km per year. However, it is 774 km with 70.4 km per year from 2014-25 in Telangana.
