Hyderabad: A father and his teenage son died after a car rammed into their makeshift shelter at Durganagar in Mailardevpally in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 4.30 am between Kurnool Road and Durganagar Crossroads. According to police, the victims were asleep inside their hut when a car, allegedly driven at high speed and in a rash manner, lost control and crashed into the structure.
“Deepak died on the spot, while Prabhavath was shifted to the hospital with serious injuries and later succumbed during treatment,” said Mailardevpally Inspector B Satyanarayana.
Police identified the driver of the car as Syed Hussain, 22, a degree student pursuing a BCom course at a college in Chandrayangutta. He was travelling along with four friends, all of whom are majors.
“The accused and his friends had attended an engagement function at Pandalaguda. They later went to Gaganpahad for coffee and were returning home when the accident occurred,” the Inspector said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was caused due to overspeeding and negligent driving. Police ruled out intoxication. “There is no evidence of drink-and-drive. The accident occurred due to high speed and loss of control,” Inspector Satyanarayana said.
Police confirmed that there were three people living in the hut – the deceased and the younger son of Prabhavath – Satunath. He escaped unhurt during the incident and informed the police after the crash.
A case has been registered under Section 106 (1) of the BNS against Hussain. He has been taken into custody and was remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
