Police launched a search in Musi near Nayapool to trace the child’s body with the help of HYDRAA.

Hyderabad: A man who allegedly murdered his three-year-old son and threw the body into the Musi river from Nayapul bridge, before lodging a missing complaint to mislead the police, has reportedly been taken into custody on Sunday. The son was reportedly suffering from a cardiac problem, and the accused was unable to pay for the treatment.

According to the Bandlaguda police, the accused, identified as Mohammed Akbar (35), a vegetable vendor, smothered his son Mohammed Anas to death around 3.30 am on Saturday. He placed the body in a gunny bag, carried it on his bike to the Nayapul bridge, and threw it into the river at around 4.45 am. After returning to his house in Nirunagar, Borabanda, he lodged a missing complaint about his son to mislead the investigation.

Bandlaguda inspector R. Devender said Anas was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. Akbar decided to eliminate him as he was unable to bear the hospital expenses, which often led to frequent quarrels with his wife Sana Begum.

Akbar was reportedly taken into custody after being spotted on CCTV cameras installed at Nayapul and surrounding areas, carrying a gunny bag on his bike. During questioning, he confessed to murdering his son, Anas, the police claimed.

Sana Begum, who works as a caretaker at Niloufer Hospital, mentioned in her complaint that her duty alternates between day and night shifts every month. On Saturday, when she was on night duty, Akbar, who had been waiting for the past 31 days, murdered their younger son.

Sana Begum, in her complaint, said that the couple married in 2016 and had two sons. Anas, the victim, was their younger child, while their elder son is seven years old.

“We have informed HYDRAA’s DRF teams, which are making efforts to retrieve the victim’s body. The case is still under investigation. We have recorded Sana Begum’s statement and registered a missing case. The case will be altered after the body is found,” Inspector Devender said.
