ADILABAD: Families are using room heaters to warm their homes, following the chilly weather conditions in the erstwhile Adilabad district for the last few days. Temperatures have dropped to their lowest level in the region.

While family members are warming themselves with room heaters, especially in towns, many are also getting warm with a bonfire early in the morning and later evening hours.

Night temperatures fell to 6 degrees Celsius in a few areas, especially in the villages located close to the forests. The Ginnedhari village in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem district recorded 6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Single-digit temperatures were recorded in 16 mandals of the Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts.

The foggy weather conditions mixed with falling snow are causing health problems to children and elderly persons. Some people developed coughs and headaches due to the chilly weather conditions.

This was for the first time that the people of this region are experiencing the winter’s prolonged chilly weather conditions. Notably, Adilabad district experienced continuous rainfall for three months, with a few breaks, during this rainy season.

Narasimhulu, an electrician, said many families have started using room heaters in Adilabad town. Several families called him up to repair their old heaters. They were keeping these in the shelves for long without having had any need for their use in recent times. He said people on travel also used heaters in their vehicles to keep themselves warm.

The sale of sweaters, woollen blankets and monkey caps also increased following the dip in temperature. A rush is evident at shops selling sweaters, blankets etc.

Another resident, Rakesh, Adilabad town said his family used a room heater for the last ten days. “Even beds, pillows and walls have become cool and we are unable to sleep on the beds without warming the rooms with the heaters,” he said.
