Excise crackdown on adulterated toddy: Durki depot seized, owner at large

Hyderabad: In a significant crackdown on the illicit toddy trade, excise officials have seized a substantial quantity of adulterated toddy and sealed a depot in Durki. The operation resulted in the identification of six individuals allegedly involved in the illegal activity.
Authorities confiscated 840 litres of the adulterated toddy. Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law. The primary suspect, Surendar Goud, the owner of the Durki toddy depot, is currently absconding. However, police have apprehended his father, Laxma Goud, in connection with the case.
The consumption of the adulterated toddy has led to a health crisis in the region. As many as 53 victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the Banswada hospital, while another 12 are hospitalised in Nizamabad. Additionally, approximately 25 individuals in Durki village itself are also reported to be suffering from the effects of consuming the tainted beverage.
MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy visited the Banswada hospital to inquire about the well-being of the affected individuals and offer support.
