Excise Constable Succumbs to Injuries After Attack by Ganja Smugglers in Nizamabad

The accused have been identified as residents of Nirmal district.

Hyderabad: Excise constable Sowmya, who was critically injured in an attack by a ganja smuggling gang, passed away on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The incident occurred recently on the outskirts of Nizamabad when excise officials were conducting midnight vehicle checks. In a bid to escape, a gang of smugglers rammed their car into the excise personnel, leaving Constable Gajula Sowmya with severe injuries. She was subsequently shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad for advanced medical care but succumbed to her wounds.

Following the attack, police chased down the smugglers' vehicle, arrested two suspects, and seized 2 kg of ganja. The accused have been identified as residents of Nirmal district.
