KARIMNAGAR: A former Maoist leader has appeared for an Intermediate examination after nearly four decades, drawing local attention in Jagtial district. Devji, also known as Thippari Tirupathi, wrote the Inter Advanced Supplementary examination on Wednesday at a centre in Korutla, completing a pending paper from his interrupted studies.
His education was halted during the 1983-85 academic period while studying at Korutla Junior College, when he became associated with the Radical Student Union. Though he had cleared most subjects, he could not appear for the second-year Telugu paper due to his involvement in cases linked to the movement.
After spending nearly 40 years in the Maoist movement, Devji recently surrendered and returned to mainstream life. He obtained special permission from the Board of Intermediate Education to appear for the pending examination. His appearance at the examination centre after a long gap has generated interest among local residents.
Devji said he plans to pursue legal studies after completing Intermediate, with the aim of assisting poorer sections of society. The development marks his return to formal education following his reintegration into civilian life.
