Ex-Army Havildar Sent Back to Jail After Hospital Discharge
Bolaram police have sought his custody for further questioning in the arms theft case.
Hyderabad:The ex-Army Havildar accused of stealing weapons and ammunition from the KOTE of the 20 Battalion Madras Regiment at Bolaram was discharged from Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday evening and sent back to Chanchalguda Central Jail, where he had been lodged after being remanded in judicial custody.
The accused, U. Mallesh, had been admitted to the hospital after reportedly developing health complications related to kidney problems. Following medical observation, doctors discharged him on Wednesday evening, after which he was taken back to the jail.
Meanwhile, Bolaram police have sought his custody for further questioning in the arms theft case. The court is expected to hear the custody petition on Thursday. If permission is granted, police are likely to take him into custody.
Investigators are preparing to conduct a scene reconstruction as part of the probe. The exercise is expected to help police establish the sequence of events, including Mallesh's movements inside the KOTE, the manner in which he entered the premises, and how he removed the weapons and ammunition without being detected.
Police are also continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the theft and the subsequent concealment of the stolen arms.
