Hyderabad:An ambulance with a patient got stranded in water in Malapet, and a bus at the new flashpoint of Maitrivanam on Saturday, even as several city areas again received more than 100 mm of rainfall, fuelled by hour-long downpours. HYDRAA deployed a crane to rescue the ambulance from under the Malakpet bridge.

The Koti-Dilsukhnagar road was closed due to heavy water logging at the Malakpet railway bridge, where officials said the water stood at four feet.

Begum Bazaar recorded 117.5 mm, followed by 106.3 mm in Charminar and 94.3 mm in CESS. Nampally, Asifnagar, and Hayathnagar crossed the 90 mm mark, prompting waterlogging warnings in low-lying areas.

Saturday’s stormy evening began in the city’s southeast and moved inward. From 6.30 pm, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar, BN Reddy, and Gurramguda were hit hard, with the rain spreading to Uppal, Nagole, Saroornagar, Rajendranagar, Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Malakpet, and Nampally by 8.30-9 pm pm.

Thorrur at Abdullapurmet recorded a cloudburst-level 116.5 mm by 8.51 pm, while Nadargul measured 80 mm and Hayathnagar 75 mm. At 9 pm, weather forecasters issued a citywide heavy rain and thunderstorm alert as new cells developed, gradually easing after 10.30 pm.

The morning remained mostly dry, except for a brief shower around Patancheru-Isnapur–Ameenpur. The IMD and other forecasters warned of severe downpours in Medak, Sangareddy, and parts of Vikarabad. By early evening, storms formed over Medchal–Shamirpet and advanced from LB Nagar through the old city, curving west toward Mehdipatnam, Golconda, Attapur, Narsingi, and Manikonda.

At the same time, the TG FCCR issued a three-hour alert for moderate rain with surface winds over Hyderabad, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad, and Yadadri–Bhuvanagiri. The state forecast warned of isolated very heavy spells across multiple districts.

Cyberabad traffic police reported storms over Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Aramghar, Attapur, and Golconda, followed by intense pockets in Medchal, Narsingi, Secunderabad, and Begumpet. Around 9 pm, traffic slowed by at least 20 minutes at Miyapur junction, Hitec City and Moula Ali Road. Waterlogging near the Bible House underpass and Metro pillar 143 led to diversions.

Reservoir management remained active throughout the day. Himayatsagar’s inflows dropped by morning, with one gate closed at 9 am. At 4 pm, the level was 1762.8 ft, by 6 pm it fell to 1762.5 ft. Osmansagar’s water level dropped from 1783.40 ft to 1782.85 ft between 4 pm and 6 pm. Earlier, Cyberabad traffic and law and order teams inspected downstream channels near Jana Chaitanya Venture and P&T Colony Road, placing barricades as a precaution.

Beyond GHMC limits, overnight rain hit Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Gadwal, and Narayanpet, shifting by midday to Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, and Kamareddy. By late afternoon, storms moved toward Nalgonda, Yadadri-Bhongir, Jangaon, Warangal, and Mulugu, where intense activity was recorded on radar and observed on the ground.

Civic advisories throughout the evening urged people to avoid underpasses and low-lying areas, watch for open manholes, and expect sudden diversions. Police supported these warnings with radar images showing the heaviest rainfall starting in the southeast and later intensifying over central zones.

The IMD’s outlook for the coming days predicts light-to-moderate rain with possible gusty winds in Hyderabad. Private weather trackers are monitoring a low-pressure system expected to form over the Bay on August 13–14, which may move west between August 15 and 17, bringing widespread rain to Telangana.
