Engineering Student Commits suicide
Her parents alleged that continuous harassment by a man she was previously in a relationship with drove her into severe distress.
Hyderabad:A 20-year-old engineering student allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Almasguda, Meerpet, late Sunday night. Her parents alleged that continuous harassment by a man she was previously in a relationship with drove her into severe distress.
The deceased, Viharika, a BTech student at a private engineering college in Abdullapurmet, had been in a relationship for six months with Kishore, a 32-year-old decoration worker from the same locality. While the family had initially agreed to the relationship and marriage, Viharika later distanced herself due to concerns over his behaviour.
Despite this, Kishore allegedly continued to harass her with repeated calls and messages, demanding marriage and subjecting her to verbal abuse. He also allegedly threatened her family when confronted.
On Sunday night, Viharika went to bed after watching TV with her parents. The next morning, when she did not come out of her room, her parents broke open the door and found her dead. Meerpet police said she had uploaded a WhatsApp status shortly before taking the extreme step.
Her parents told police that she had been disturbed in the days leading up to her death and was unable to cope with the harassment. Based on their complaint, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kishore. Viharika’s body was shifted to Osmania mortuary, and further investigation is underway.
