Elderly Couple Killed in Alwal, Cash and Gold Missing
The murder came to light after the couple’s daughter, Latha, came to their place to check up on them
HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons entered the house of an elderly couple, murdered them and fled with cash and gold, in Suryanagar, Alwal police said on Sunday. Alwal inspector Rahul Dev identified the deceased as A, Kanakaiah, 70, security guard, and his wife, Rajamma, 60. The couple hailed from Illendu in Kothagudem.
The murder came to light after the couple’s daughter, Latha, came to their place to check up on them. She immediately dialled 100 and informed the police, who reached the spot with the dog squad, Clues team, the crime team and CCS Medchal police.
The couple had three children, two daughters and a son, all residing in the same locality. Latha, who works as a security guard too, resides in the opposite lane. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Latha said that the murder was carried out for gain. “I found that a gold chain and Rs 1 lakh cash was missing from the house.”
Inspector Rahul Dev said, “The couple have suffered a head injury, we suspect they were struck with a stick. This seems to be someone well-known to the deceased.”
Srinivas, a neighbour of the couple, said, “We are sure it happened at night. In the morning, after their daughter raised an alarm, all we saw was the couple in a pool of blood.”
Kanakaiah and Rajamma would go to Latha’s place for the night and return the next morning. The couple’s granddaughter Swathi said, “They recently collected the cash from the village. We suspect they mentioned it to one of the neighbours, who must be behind the murder.”
A case was registered and the body was shifted to the Gandhi mortuary for postmortem examination. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
